These components may be combined in the following configurations:
- Java GUI (running on any Java-enabled computer) communicating with an
AIX or NT server over an intranet or the Internet (SynCore Server for Java)
- Standalone OS/2 workstation (OS/2 GUI and OS/2 engine) communicating
with local or remote File Cabinet (SynCore/2)
- OS/2 or DOS GUI communicating with MVS engine and MVS File Cabinet (SynCore/1)
In all these cases, external interface programs can run on any computer with an IBM SNA (APPC) connection. The File Cabinet is available as an APPC transaction program, permitting very efficient use of telecommunication resources.
